The works presented in OBSERVATION are the result of the knowledge exchange between UCL Slade School of Fine Art’s Scientists in Residence, Professor David Dobson and Dr Ruth Siddall.

Both David and Ruth are Earth Scientists by background and in its most recognised form Earth Sciences and specifically Geology are truly observational sciences. Much of our work is influenced by looking at and through materials – metal, pigment, paper, wood and stone - and revealing new aspects of familiar landscape and object forms. The works presented here are also a testimony to new skills learned from interactions with Slade School staff and students over the last two years.
