Heeyeon Chi – BA/BFA
Most of my practice has been keen on transformation and the interlink between objects. I have experimented with ideas visually from grotesque to romantic composition using human body parts to resemble some qualities of a flower. Colour, form, and type of a flower also give a huge change in value. On the other hand, there is no real boundary and limit existing in this way in an art piece. A visual image of a flower that an artist creates on a canvas creates a nuance. The artist's perspective and thoughts are translated into every brush stroke and colour palette that one chooses. The translucent layers of paint are used to transfer my ephemeral emotion changes day by day. Therefore the existence of a flower in each work will conflict with the meaning of the flower in the real world. I believe this feeling of “similar” transcend the existing boundaries and brings a new experience to the viewer.
