I. Nakhla – MA/MFA
I work across audio, writing, drawing, and performance to explore language, musicality, and storytelling. I am interested in the relationship between energy, transmission, and rhythm related to queerness and otherness, time, place and memory. My audio works blur lines between sound art and a musical practice, raising questions about the authenticity and plurality of the voice. Through vocal harmonies and voice distortions I shapeshift, transcend and magnify my own voice as an act of queer-feminist protest and play.
My drawings present themselves as blueprints of a future and artefacts of the past, as hyperlinked systems of bodies, cities and alien contraptions. Characters are indistinguishable from machinery as they navigate industrial, bodily and erotic planes.
Whether on paper, in performance, or sound, my practice centres on rhythmic, bodily, and mechanical investigations into effect and transmission.
