Drawing from my personal experience of growing up on a commercial farm, my current work considers the rural landscape as both an ecological system and an industrialized space for mass food production, essential to human nourishment. I explore the field as in-between space, seeking out the teetering points where practical knowledge and modern farming methods merge with superstitious beliefs and traditions. Works are often realised as ephemeral installations which combine unstable materials, painting techniques, sculptural forms and disorientating plays of light and shadow. I endeavour to re-enchant commonplace substances such as sand, graphite, and straw, using them to evoke a sense of distorted reality and the supernatural to highlight the limits of human perception in experiencing earthly matter.

Bio: Polly Jane Wilson is a cross-disciplinary visual artist based in London, graduating from from the Slade School of Fine Art in MA Sculpture in 2022. Wilson’s work has been selected for shows across the UK including London Grads Now 2020 at the Saatchi Gallery and New Futures Digital at Kovet.Art and has been shortlisted for the Chadwell Prize 2022.
