Anneke Kampman – MA/MFA/PhD
Based in London.
I am an artist and musician working across writing, performance, music and moving image. Operating as theories, fictions, or framing devices, my works draw from my own experiences as a musician alongside the methods and arguments of German critical theory, institutional critique, and popular culture, re-staging the techniques of the so-called cultural industries in an “immanent critique” of pop. Key to this is an investment in questions related to the commodification, standardisation, and reproduction of the artistic ‘personality’ (broadly understood). My recent work explores the politics and multivalent histories of popular music’s global circulation via visual media such as the music-video.
