Ilona Balaga – MA/MFA/PhD

Based in London and Tel-Aviv

Through the landscape of urban living and post-modernity, of constant change and precarity, I create work that investigates the human condition in modern day life through the tension between collective and personal narratives. Working in a wide range of mediums, including installation, sculpture, video, sound and performance, I structure open-ended environments which borrow the language of the everyday. Fascinated by the movement and change that occur in the public space, the abundance of material, sound, smell, colour and texture, destruction and renewal—I am interested in the ephemeral moment juxtaposed with more solid systems such as architecture or social structures.
