Sam Meredith – MA/MFA/PhD

Based in London

I enjoy letting materials misbehave through an act of roughing things out and working intuitively and directly. I primarily use industrial materials, such as wood or metal that I have accumulated and have been marinating for a while in my studio.

I am interested in making sculpture that tries to describe itself, work that acknowledges its maker and that offers a tactile or sensory experience. They are amorphic forms contained in pieces of architecture, negotiating completion, expanding from the middle out.

A playful and visceral approach to materials is also embodied in my writing, which combines poetry, anecdotes, musings and memories that are sometimes spoken or performed. Writing allows for another space to pull apart my research in relation to my practice.
