Sadie Gayer
Sadie Gayer – BA/BFA
I mimic bones unbound by anatomy, so my work can sit between allusion and replication. I base sculptures on drawings, treating them like ‘plans’ to construct, seemingly natural, artificial forms. I create familiar forms which embody human traits, retaining ambiguity regarding age, history and weight. Natural forms like ribs and vertebrae influence my sculptures. My work embodies an ‘internal claustrophobia’, stemming from my own overwhelming need to crack the joints in my fingers, due to tension between my skin and bones. I strive to create the same tension using the personification of forms. They shake, fall over, are nervous, are trapped, hit a wall and seem unsure of themselves.
