Lexia Hachtmann – MA/MFA

Working in figurative painting and printmaking, I explore notions of the individual in
society and the dialectic relation of private to public. Recurring motifs in my work
orientate around social questions of language, identity and hierarchy. I try to depict
the ambivalent, the uncanny and longing of the individual to comprehend feelings of
isolation and intimacy. Often, my figures tend to be situated in stage-like off-spaces or colour-scapes in which the light seems to emanate from the subjects themselves. I am invested in experimenting with ways of presenting and expanding painting into the space. Colour and materiality has a predominant position in my practice. Working in both the large and small format I want to invite the viewer to approach as well as step-away from the work to activate the exhibition space.

I am currently living and working in London, UK.
