Or Lapid
Or Lapid – UCL East Campus Art Collection
Time, light and colour are at the core of my artistic practice, and I keep seeking different ways to capture them. My work focuses on mundane moments, and I capture scenes through search and observation—translating their essence into forms by playing with light and colour. Delving into the potential of forms and colour, my practice generally focuses on gestures, using saturated flatness, subjective colours and expressive brush strokes and lines. I find liberation in the way I paint and not only by what I paint.
I am trying to convey dualities that are both real and imagined— melancholy and happiness, stillness and movement, beauty and ugliness, wild and contained, internal and external world. I paint primarily with oils, however, by experimenting with different mediums and surfaces—shifting between canvas and post-it notes, cardboard or clay—I look for something different every time, and the search itself becomes a critical part of my practice.
