Lockdown happened, everything ground to a halt and what followed was the incessant need to document this bizarre time within the rules of confinement. A tiny town on the North West Coast of Cumbria, not a place one could pass through, you’re either coming or going – and no one was coming. I spent months photographing my town, it created this tiny buzz amongst neighbours and a celebration of normality in amongst the most unusual time. We’re living through history, our today will be taught in classrooms in decades to come – this needs documented, the people who are living through this will be remembered as being a part of this humanitarian crisis. It’s segregated us from neighboring villages, towns and cities but brought us closer together as a community. Black and white allows for the photographs to instantly feel nostalgic before they’ve had time to mature – evocative of the historical time we’re living through.

I am the lone person involved within this project. I am currently in the midst of creating a photobook to round the project off, these will be sold with money going to a chosen charity.
