A talk by Wang Hui, Carl Schmitt, Robinson Crusoe
, Yuhan Chang
, 2016, HD video.
The artist invented a conversation between a contemporary Chinese scholar, a late 20th century German jurist and political thinker, and a British fictional character living in the 17th century. The transcript was selected from books, speeches and analysis of the novel by the speakers. These three people from different periods of time, of different nationalities, all linked to the ocean, opened up a discussion about early modern geography, spatial revolution, early colonialism, the circulation of capital in the era of globalization, the modern way of life, and an imagined future.
