Artist’s Statement

Boon & Baum is the collaborative duo of Joe Boon and Anna Baumgart, currently studying an MFA in sculpture together at the Slade School of Art (UCL). We previously both graduated with Firsts from BA Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins. Drawing upon our fashion background, our work employs the language of fashion to experiment with notions of ‘dressing’ and ‘wearing’.

As individuals living in different genders and sexualities we draw on our unique experiences to explore the world in which we live in together. We perceive Boon & Baum as similar to the warp and weft of a fabric. We work like the bias of a fabric, as an interconnected lattice supported by the horizontal and vertical of the weave, whilst approaching it from an unconventional angle. Themes such as uniform, invisibility, identity and conformity are integral to our work. Our collective slant on the world brings new and unexpected properties to the fore.
