Appendix 1: Active Bystander Programme
As part of your induction program, we are asking you to complete the Active Bystander Programme.
The Active Bystander Programme is a core element of UCL and Students’ Union UCL’s induction that aims to empower students to recognise and challenge unacceptable behaviours on campus and beyond. Over the last eight years, more than 35,000 students have taken part in the program, helping develop a vibrant and inclusive community for students and staff at UCL.
The program is made up of two parts:
Part 1: An online training module
This module will teach you what constitutes unacceptable behaviours such as bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct and how you can intervene if you spot any of these behaviors and introduce you to support services available at UCL and externally.
This training is accessible via the Students’ Union website by clicking ‘Complete the Online Training’ and should be completed before attending a live workshop.
Part 2: A live 75-minute workshop organised.
The workshop will explore the topics covered in the online module in greater depth.
In groups, you will discuss scenarios, safe methods of intervention, and how you can report and best challenge unacceptable behaviour.
The live in-person workshops will take place during the following dates and times:
Monday 7 October 2024 2:00pm–3:30pm
If you are unable to attend the live sessions we have booked, there will be general admissions workshops running in the second half of Term 1. You can sign-up for a waiting list to be notified once bookings for these sessions open.
We believe that the Active Bystander Programme helps create a safe and welcoming environment at UCL. That’s why it’s extremely important that all students attend the training.
Please get in touch with activebystander@ucl.ac.uk if you have any questions about the training.
Appendix 2: Workshops Online Mandatory Training
Students must complete an online induction with a quiz via SISO before being able to access the Workshop or Make Space.
This induction is available in a written format and video format and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
We recommend doing this on a tablet or laptop, SISO is not great on mobile.
- You will find the training in ‘Find Rooms’
- Scroll down to the bottom and you will see the different workshop facilities and it will say ‘Training required’
- Click on any of the ‘Training required’ button (It is all the same and you only need to do it once to unlock all facilities)
- In the pop up that comes up click the blue link.
- Follow the instructions on the next page to read the training document and complete the quiz. You need 100% to pass the quiz but you can take it as many times as you need.
Please see this video guide of these instructions if you prefer a visual format.
