Scholarship Details

The Scholarship shall be used to support a full-time Postgraduate student with UK fee status, studying an MA or MFA in Fine Art (Painting) at the Slade School of Fine Art. The Scholarship will be offered on the basis of merit with students' financial need taken into account. The successful student will receive a total of £6,000 (£3,000 per annum) to be used exclusively towards the student's tuition fees.

Criteria

  • UK Home Fee
  • MA/MFA Fine Art (Painting)
  • Merit and Financial needs
  • 24/25 Academic Year

Application Process

  • Timeline: Mid-April to early-Jun (Application usually opens after UCL central Admissions team sends out official offers.)
  • Form: An online application form will be shared with all eligible offer holders via email.

Selection Process

The Slade School of Fine Art will be exclusively responsible for shortlisting the best and most deserving student based on the merit of their applications. UCL reserves the right not to make an award if, in its judgement, there is no suitable candidate.
All applications will be considered in the Slade Prizes Committee in the end of June. The prizes committee members include Director of School, Head of Areas, Director of Studies, EDI Lead, Teaching and Learning Officers.
If a suitable candidate cannot be found, the funds will be rolled over and awarded in the following academic year. The scholarship cannot be awarded to a student on another programme.

The scholarship may be kept open if there is a period of interruption in the recipient's studies e.g. if they have to pause their studies due to unexpected personal circumstances.

If the scholar leaves UCL, the monies remaining will be awarded to an existing student the next year.

If, during their studies, the recipient decides to transfer to another UCL programme the award is not permitted to 'follow' the student and the remaining funds will be awarded to an existing student on a pro-rata basis.

The award is solely for the academic year for which the student has applied. If the student decides to defer when they begin their programme, the award cannot be transferred or delayed to a subsequent academic year and will be awarded to another eligible candidate.

Outcome

In early July, the Slade Teaching and Learning Office will communicate the Slade Prizes Committee's decision with the selected scholars via email and also inform OVPA (Office Vice Provost Advancement) to contact the donor. The Slade Teaching & Learning Office will also provide a brief supporting statement from the Prize Committee. The selected scholars' portfolios will be shared with the donor. However the donor has no influence at all over the decision.

Payment

Payment will be processed by the Slade Teaching & Learning Office by putting a request directly on Portico which will then link with the recipients' Student Record for the central Finance team manage the payment.

Additional Requirements

The Slade Teaching and Learning team will get in touch with selected scholars to provide the donor with an annual "Thank You" letter in Term 2. The letter should include how the scholarship has helped with their art practise and their studies.
